PoI

Post by georg »

Hi,
I saw you have PoI in the 4.2 like as in my old 4 Beta. But they are not
from MSFS I guess (for example Petra isn't a PoI in 2020 and I can't find
well known PoI in Plan-G).
Since you are importing so much data from 2020, do you think it would
be possible to import the PoI as well?
I spend a lot of time in looking for PoI in 2020, and You can imagine the
“added value” that a good PoI list brings to flight planning.

But now I like to explore the new version.
Anyway I like to say thank you for this amazing product.

POI are part of the User Waypoint system, they've been there since forever. There's a default set that comes with the base app, but it's left pretty much to the user to add their own. Most sims don't have a POI database, and Plan-G is pretty much sim-agnostic.

That said, I'm sure I could probably write an importer for MSFS POIs.

I don't know how much other pilots explore PoI in MSFS 2020. For me it would be great to see the PoI within my flight plan just to visit them. But if I'm (almost) the only one who looks for it, it makes no sense to put a lot of time into that. Some time ago I tried to look into different files, but I had no luck to identify Poi, the names and the position in the world to export them in a text file (json, or simple csv). I found a lot of files refering to PoI, but without position. If you have a peace of code how to do that, it might help posting.php?mode=reply&t=204#
but as I said, it makes no sense for you if I'm the only one dealing with it.
